How to get a copy of your credit report The Federal Government has made it easier for you to get a free copy of your credit report. Once a year, you may visit www.annualcreditreport.com to view your report online right away. Or you may call 1-877-322-8228 to obtain a copy of your report from all three credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian & Trans Union. These free reports provide you with details on each of your accounts (minimum balance, current balance, high credit limit, status of account); Inquiries (who has been looking at your credit within the last 12 months); Public Records (bankruptcies, liens or judgments from federal, state or county court records) and Collection Accounts. If you want to know what your "Credit Scores" are, you will have to pay a fee to order your score from each credit agency. Who should check their credit report Anyone planning to apply for a loan should, as it affects what interest rate you can get. But everyone else should too, as you may be able to spot identity theft before it has tarnished your record. Plus, your credit report & credit score can affect what you pay for insurance, whether you get a job, and what minimum payments and interest rates you pay on credit cards you already have.
